Mixtape Mondays with Dj Moto

Today Mixtape Mondays  gets a little nostalgic. I decided to post Dj Moto’s Club Joint 3.5  all the way back  from 1999. Moto recently put this up on his page and memories flooded back. First things first before 90′s/2000′s Rnb/hip hop anthem sets were staple in every sydney club and before fools with popped collars requested “old school music”, Moto and the club joint fam did this all, over ten years before with wax and more flare and skills than the majority of sydney dj’s would dream of having.  Even though in high school i was nerding out on golden era 90′s boom bap these tapes blew me away and jiggy was inescapable back then. I remember stealing the club joint cd’s from my sisters older friends cars and trying to figure out how they rocked doubles. I also remember all the lawsuits with the club joint mix c.d’s and how they built their brand off those tapes. I’m sure purists will hate but but anyone that can make tapes with Beyonce/Ras kass/ Mariah and Nore in the same ten mins work have my props. These dudes all  had/ still have serious skills and played good tunes as well as jiggy stuff. Download this, go to Moto’s page and look for any other club joint tapes while your at it. Respect.

DJ Naiki ‘Beastie Boys Tribute’ in honour of MCA

beastie boys run dmc in alley under fire escape brick wall
Way back when all Australian’s knew how to do at concerts was mosh and crowd surf inappropriately to everything, I remember seeing Beastie Boys at Sydney’s Hordern Pavillion, just after Hello Nasty was released. It was an amazing show as the group played as a band performing their really diverse catalogue. Amazing.

They are a group that has reinvented themselves again and again over time. Never staying still. They way were the group that helped to expose hip hop to white kids, but through the years also introduced hip hop kids to punk, bossanova, funk, country and much more.

Rest in Peace, Adam Yauch a.k.a. MCA. This our tribute to the Beastie Boys put together by DJ Naiki

Highlight of the night would have to be the running man competition. Grown folks in the middle of the circle dancing their hearts to the sounds of MC Hammer like they were 14 again.

It was definitely a night full of 90s nostalgia. Many punters coming dressed to the theme having rummaged through the back of their closets to find an outfit they may have worn more than 10 years ago. Meanwhile, the DJs pumped out rnb classic after classic to a packed Danceteria at Goodgod Small Club.

Thanks to all that came and made it a massive night. Congratulations to Callum our Running Man Champion of NSW and Lilybeth the winner of our Westcoast Cooler and Passion Pop hamper for best dressed.

Mixtape Mondays With Paul Nice

Mixtape mondays week 2, i didn’t flake out. It was kind of a no brainer for me to take one of Paul Nice’s tapes for this week. He has been one of my biggest influences for years. Immaculate taste in music, skills to boot and  killer production. I am still angry at myself for missing him spin at O-ii-shi all those years back. I have listened to most of his tapes and can safely say they are all jems.  This 70 mins of  soul soaked goodness should make your monday just that little bit more bearable.

Few freeloads because i love you all.
