Eric Lau interview, mix and funnesss!

Eric has got the nod factor. His music has that swinging bass that reminds you of a drunken tortoise plodding out of the pub. He jumped off a plane, then came to the studio where we stuck a camera in his face and put him to work behind the turntables. He has an album of his beats and the likes of Oddisee, Guilty Simpson, Muhsinah and Kaidi Tatham providing vocals. It is called New Territories and it is worth your attention. Check it

Errkkk.. Yes that is Father MC from his 1996 Playgirl feature. The paternal rapper didn’t really live up to his name. In 97, we was arrested for owing $60,000 worth of child support for his out of wedlock kiddies.

You can hear from the Father MC and a few other New Jack Swingers when DJ Yelo gets in the mix. We are also joined by Sydney rappers, Loose Change and Nick Knowledge. Hear it all by clicking on your Daddy.

DJ Mike Who on the Salt Plains

Selector, ‘Don of the Dish’, and dear friend of the show DJ Mike Who? came in to do a pretty fantabulous mix of hip hop, dancehall and a bit of rnb. I highly recommend pressing play on this one.

Van and Jess raising the bar on Youtube Covers

This blog is mostly for getting up our Stolen Records content onto the world wide interwebs, however, I had to share this one with ya’ll.  About 1,000 of the hits on this video are me listening to it over and over again. We need to get more singers into the studio. Any suggestions on Sydney artists that we really need to get behind the microphone?

Download: Mos Dub – In My Math

Hip hop producer guy, Max Tannone has released a new remix project which mixes Mos Def vocals with the sounds of dub reggae. This is a track we played on the show, you may notice it uses the same Scientist sample as a certain Aussie hip hop group.

Video: Spit Syndicate Interview and Freestyle

We were hoping it would be like 50 Cent vs Kanye when both Spit Syndicate and Ozi Batla released albums on the same day in May. We had to address the rumours that one of them would retire if they don’t out sell the other and also got into a little discussion about Spit Syndicate’s new free food escapades.

We highly recommend that you check out their latest work Exile. You can purchase a copy on iTunes. Also make sure you check out Ozi Batla’s album Wild Colonial

DJ Naiki “Guru vs Original Samples” Tribute Mix

Guru of Gangstarr and Jazzamatazz Tribute MixA week after Guru passed away, we invited one of our favourite DJ’s, Naiki San, to help us pay tribute. This is a set of Gang Starr and Jazzamatazz material mixed with the original soul and jazz that was sampled to make these hip hop classics.

My first memory of Gang Starr was at the under 18 parties when we used to do the running man to ‘Love Sick’. Later on albums like ‘Daily Operation’ and ‘Hard To Earn’ got heavy rotation in my walkman. While Gang Starr helped define the New York hip hop sound, Jazzmatazz introduced me to the soul artists that made hip hop possible. Then much later on I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to interview Guru himself.

He was still producing great material up until recently. On his last mixtape ‘Back to The Future’, released in 2008, he was spitting just as good as ever. He murders it on some old fast rap tracks.

Download: Guru’s Jazzamatazz – Back to the Future Mixtape

I hope you enjoy Naiki’s mix. Please let us know your thoughts on the comments.
