Another instalment of Pineapple Republic went down last Saturday night and again it heaved! A party that has been growing since day one and one of the only spots in Sydney where you get to hear the variety of tunes run to a full dance floor. We hit capacity just after 12 and were faced with the prospect of turning away mega lines of tropical worshippers. Huge vibes the whole night and bigups everyone that came throug!! We have a Day of The Dead celebration on the on Nov 1st where we have joined forces with some of the cities finest!! Details here>> DAY OF THE DEAD
Here are some freeloads of some of the biggest tunes of the night
Warming up to this Saturday’s Pineapple Repblic, we started off the show with some of the hottest reggaeton. We then rounded it off with some reggae and even got topical (not tropical) with The Herd’s 77%.
Joyride graced us with his presence and sat through a game of Cake where he miraculously got 5 out of 5. Joyride’s set was a mashup of classic hip hop and r’n b. Then it got pretty damn sexy.
Oh – and I ate the meanest, sweetest and juiciest navel orange. Shabba, Shabba, Shabba Ranks. Shabba, Shabba, Shabba Ranks.

Pineapple Republic is our Bi Monthly late night Tropical Pachanga, in your favourite below sea level den, Tatler. The last one was heaving. Pineapples were caressed, people got low and selectors ran the dance with deep Latin and Caribbean heat.
Expect more of the same with your local heros Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Alongside The Colombian connection Sr. Bolivar and Tropicante, plus our special guest Huwston.
And to get it all started the night will feature dance performances from the 101 DOLL SQUADRON! SQUAADDDDD!
It’s only 5 bones all night long. BYO Pineapples and tropical attire, and palm tree installations
To get you in the mood Mike Who jumped in the terradome last night and played a whole heap of tunes to get you hyped for Friday. Listen to the mix below.
Wooooaah! Did not expect it to be that rammed. By midnight we had to stop letting people in as the party reached capacity. It was another night of Caribbean music and intense booty shaking not restricted to our Dutty Dance Off. Congratulations to Audrey for taking out the competition and winning herself a top notch cask of wine valued at $15. Totally worth it. Our selectors took us on a journey through the wide range of sounds starting with roots reggae, into new and classic dancehall with a bit of Ska, Moombahton, Latin Heat, Bashment and Soca thrown in for good measure – then ended it at 4am with some Old School Jungle.
Missed out? Would like to relive the night? Listen to Shantan’s Mix while you peruse the photos…
Seriously when doesn’t the Dopeman deliver, 100 percent hands down one of my top 5 fav dj/producers of all time.Kenny Dope is the definition of legit, from his seminal work as one half of MOW, as well as dropping all matter f heat on some of my most cherished 12’s and comps, to tastemaker, ridiculously dope dj, and Head honcho of KayDee the list is too long to continue. Anyone who isn’t down with Kenny Dope needs to do get acquainted with one of the most significant figures across more styles of music than you care to know about. This Mixtape Mondays we check another all 45’s mix of funk, soul and original breaks from the man himself. Listen below or sign up to his Newsletter to download and cop regular heat. LONG LIVE THE DOPEMAN!!
I wanted to leave this mix to post towards the end of the year to have some sort of grand finale or retrospective mix of the year post, but i got impatient and wanted to share with anyone who hasn’t checked it yet. Soul Sisters Stand Up, is a mind blowing mix put together over the course of two years by two of the most legit dj’s worldwide, The Gaff and Skratch Bastid. These two dons of the turntables pay tribute to the female soul, funk and Rnb vocalists of the 60’s nd 70’s the right way. This mixtape is done proper, real mixing, tight blends, tidy cuts, tasteful doubles and littered with original sample sources. There isn’t really much more i can say to get you to download this mix, easily one of the most hyped tapes of the year and with due respect. Download, share with crew, kiss me later.
This post is all about me getting a bit nostalgic about growing up and being a certified music nerd. I really just wanted an outlet to post some regular tunes that were significant to me back then, some embarrassing some not so much, non genre specific and i guess a little outlook into some of the stuff i have grown up on and what has maybe shaped some of the stuff i play out and vibe on now. I will try and give a little history on each of the tunes that were no doubt staples on my sisters walkman in primary school or my dodgy not so anti shock discman in high school. I never messed with that futuristic minidisc biz.I will try my best to hit up some friends and foes, other dj’s, producers and champion nerds to get involved on the concept and if all goes well hopefully we can make it a regular thing on the blog with guests breaking down a few of their primary or high school anthems.
Wow this popped up the other day and i lost my shit. Year 9 massive, me and a matey Gus who peeps now may know as Skryptcha used to trade C.D’s in high school and he put me onto Pun, Organized Konfusion, Atmosphere and so many other staples that shaped my tastes for years to come. The Ramon Morris horn line flip gives me shivers every time. This Tune still holds weight today more than 10 years later. Certified Boricua anthem and given the chance you will definitely hear me play this out.
MP3: Roger & Zapp- So Ruff, So Tuff
How is it possible not to freak of this tune, i remember being super young and hearing or seeing this on some strange movie i have no recollection of except this song. I waited till the credits rolled and they have all the songs from the movie, i wrote down every song getting my VCR pause game on. This was Pre Internet days so you couldn’t google shit, it took me a few more years to figure out what it actually was and i freaked when i did. Has been a staple in my crates ever since i started playing out. West coast whip anthem that never fails to get even the stiffest folks nodding their heads.
MP3: Cj Bolland- Suger Is Sweeter (Armand’s Drum And Bass Edit)
Seriously i can’t even remember how old i was when i heard this, maybe 10 or 11 but i remember it being on the wildfm 3 cd and just always having it on repeat because i vibed on it so much. Shameless cheese that I’m sure will turn the nose up of any true UK Garage heads. No doubt this track was big back then, and to see Jackmaster and Oneman on the boileroom live stream drop this to a full tent at the Notting Hill Carnival last year was both mind blowing and nostalgic. Check the footage for yourself. Here
Sydney continues to deliver with touring hip hop royalty pretty much every other week. In a way i am kind of glad i have been away for a while, because i would have rinsed my rent money one to many times. At least that’s what i keep telling myself to feel better.
