Brrr! Brrr! Brrr! Put your hands up. Feel those horns. It is the Young Money remix of Kanye’s ‘All Of The Lights’ with Weezy, Drake and Big Sean. The original is so massive, but some how this remix is not nearly as killer as it should be. Please insert Nicki Minaj. Thoughts?
Foreign yet familiar. I love a non-English version of a Western hit. Here is Japan’s answer to the Jackson 5, The Clash via Algeria and Chaka Demus & Pliers gone Bollywood. Get ethnic with it.
Sleep standing outside Shinjuku Station. Proof the Japanese can nap anywhere.
Brisky Lazer Guns. One of the all girl groups I saw at a night called Girls Power.
There is not an object that can't be converted into a cute animal. Council workers any where else would find this equipment too emasculating. Imagine trying to wolf whistle at a girl, while leaning on one of these.
Much like how African Americans have reclaimed the 'N-Word'.
Oink!
キノコホテル (Kinoco Hotel). An all girl Japanese Garage Rock band.
Woah! Really putting it out there dude. I hope you can back it up.
Japan. Crazy, huh? I hear they sell orphan babies in vending machines and Hello Kitty is President. I went there once. These are some of the photos I took on my brother’s shitty camera before it’s battery ran out and I couldn’t recharge it. Some of them are even semi in focus.
I was at an all girls rock night in Shinjuku and was having one of those “I’m spending way much money” moments. In hindsight I should have bought one of the CD’s these Kinoco Hotel girls were peddling, but in lieu of having some of their music to share, I have posted something of a similar vain.
The 5.6.7.8’s, are probably the best known of the Japanese all girl Garage Rock bands. Their music is reminiscent of American Surf Rock, Rockabilly and Garage Rock, they also cameo in Kill Bill and they can’t sing L’s. I Ruv You!
Looking for Tokyo nightlife? Other than asking in record stores, Metropolis and Time Out Tokyo is a great start. And for fantastic food options and a couple of ultra trendy hipster bars follow Fashimi on her super hot and cute blog and twitter.
Update: Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Meltdowns and now possible Volcanic activity. You should help out at least just a little. Donate at redcross.org or redcross.org.au
Wow I am so late on this one. This really should have been a hit. It took stumbling on to this amazing cosmic video just recently to make me notice and really appreciate this song. Now fifty percent of the views on this video is me listening to it constantly on repeat at work. It was shot by artifact, the same folks who have done Spit Syndicate’s ‘Starry Eyed’ and Astronomy Class’ ‘Where You At?’ Smashing stuff!
XXX Edition. Black Label! Adults Only! Strictly mature audiences with a taste for infantile raps about dicks and booties.
We talk to Godfathers of misogynistic party music – 2 Live Crew. We try to find out if the nasty boys of hip hop have a romantic side. The short answer is ‘No’.
DJ extrordinaire, Kato plays a set of Miami Bass and Baltimore Club. It’s a celebration of ideologically unsound booty jams. Turn it up loud, and imagine you are sweating it out on the dancefloor of Bandits at Club 77 circa 2007.

The remix of the remix. Childish Gambino adds his verse to the Jamie XX remix of Adele. I usually hate it when rappers do this. The track was doing just fine without you. But after a number of listens I am growing a fondness for comedian Donald Glover’s nerd rap alter ego.
This photo is possibly the second best thing I have ever done. The first being the time I caught a prawn shell using chopsticks. I was going to a Japanese Restaurant for a friends birthday, and didn’t realise it was Teppanyaki. There I am worried about my crisp white shirt, but low and behold, I totally aced it. The night was topped off with my Mr Miyagi prawn catching effort.
Anyways, before it is no longer weather appropriate, I thought I would put up some summer jams…
Once upon a time I made Mexican Thumb Wrestlers from a rubber glove. Eventually they started to melt. Now they live in my freezer. Occasionally, deep in the night during the witching hours when good folks are all fast asleep, if you open the freezer door at the right time, you might catch them having an Igloo rave. These are the sort of jams you might hear.
Nothing says how much you care like heart shaped eggs on toast...
Valentine’s Day coming soon. And though I’m aware it is a made up holiday, for a fictional Saint, designed by an evil alliance of Greeting Card Companies, Flower Peddlers and Chocolate Moguls to have us running around buying cliched crap in a contrived attempt at being spontaneous and romantic on the designated day for spontaneous romanticness – I do love being corny and cheesy, and will take advantage of any opportunity presented to me to do so.
We will be getting our Richard Mercer on tomorrow on the show. Hit us with your favourite hip hop love songs. Here are some of ours…
Early last year I (Mike Who?) had the chance to play some tunes with Bill before these homies from Brisbane who I must say are nothing short of dam spectacular. The Surecut Kids are a dj/production super duo from the Gold coast. They throw down 4 deck shows with mpc routines that will blow you away. Easily at home making hip hop heads loose it, reducing indie kids to tears or melting faces in the club. Next time these dudes make it down to sydney or wherever you are do yourself a favour and get there. Here is one of their first tapes I heard which is bossy as and influenced me to play indie tunes at inappropriate times and places I probably shouldn’t have been playing them.
