Mirrah and Zig: Rap and Racialism

How do you react to racism? Anger, humour or ignoring it? I’ve called somebody a ‘Corey Worthington’ as the only thing I could think of close to being as insulting as a truly racist remark.

We talk with Mirrah and her husband, Zig, about racialism in Australia. One of things she says reminds me of the scene in ‘See No Evil, Hear No Evil‘ where the blind character Richard Pryor is playing discovers he is ‘black’. “Does Dad know?”.

Look out for Mirrah’s new mixtape, ‘Life Love Music’, and let us know your experiences.

Video: Max Gosford bringing the Grime Love

The search for the brown note is over. Dubstep’s biggest bass drop competition was getting a little out of hand, and it is pleasant to hear a handful of producers making music that doesn’t sound like your brain hemorrhaging. The host of FBi’s Low Motion, Max Gosford gives us a taste of grime love in his mix featured in the following show…

Eric Lau interview, mix and funnesss!

Eric has got the nod factor. His music has that swinging bass that reminds you of a drunken tortoise plodding out of the pub. He jumped off a plane, then came to the studio where we stuck a camera in his face and put him to work behind the turntables. He has an album of his beats and the likes of Oddisee, Guilty Simpson, Muhsinah and Kaidi Tatham providing vocals. It is called New Territories and it is worth your attention. Check it

Van and Jess raising the bar on Youtube Covers

This blog is mostly for getting up our Stolen Records content onto the world wide interwebs, however, I had to share this one with ya’ll.  About 1,000 of the hits on this video are me listening to it over and over again. We need to get more singers into the studio. Any suggestions on Sydney artists that we really need to get behind the microphone?

Video: Spit Syndicate Interview and Freestyle

We were hoping it would be like 50 Cent vs Kanye when both Spit Syndicate and Ozi Batla released albums on the same day in May. We had to address the rumours that one of them would retire if they don’t out sell the other and also got into a little discussion about Spit Syndicate’s new free food escapades.

We highly recommend that you check out their latest work Exile. You can purchase a copy on iTunes. Also make sure you check out Ozi Batla’s album Wild Colonial
