Catch Ozi Batla at the Stolen Records Gala Ball alongside Koolism, Thundamentals, Katalyst (DJ Set), The Optimen, Apsci, Loose Change, Daily Meds, Phat Chance ft The Coptic Soldiers and the Stolen Records Gangstaz on Friday July 16 at the Gaelic Theatre. It is well cheap $12 supporters / $17 non supporters / $22 on the door.

Mirrah and Zig: Rap and Racialism

How do you react to racism? Anger, humour or ignoring it? I’ve called somebody a ‘Corey Worthington’ as the only thing I could think of close to being as insulting as a truly racist remark.

We talk with Mirrah and her husband, Zig, about racialism in Australia. One of things she says reminds me of the scene in ‘See No Evil, Hear No Evil‘ where the blind character Richard Pryor is playing discovers he is ‘black’. “Does Dad know?”.

Eric Lau interview, mix and funnesss!

Eric has got the nod factor. His music has that swinging bass that reminds you of a drunken tortoise plodding out of the pub. He jumped off a plane, then came to the studio where we stuck a camera in his face and put him to work behind the turntables. He has an album of his beats and the likes of Oddisee, Guilty Simpson, Muhsinah and Kaidi Tatham providing vocals. It is called New Territories and it is worth your attention. Check it

We were hoping it would be like 50 Cent vs Kanye when both Spit Syndicate and Ozi Batla released albums on the same day in May. We had to address the rumours that one of them would retire if they don’t out sell the other and also got into a little discussion about Spit Syndicate’s new free food escapades.
