Don’t want this blog to be too flyer heavy, but I am just too proud of my shitty artwork. Proud as a lion you might say. Umm.. yeah… Sydney crew… here is a little taste of what you can expect at Ching-a-lings if you come down on Sunday.
Murs is one of my favourite rappers, and also a really swell guy. I had him on the show years ago when I was doing late nights, and he was still Def Juxing it. I ended up freestyling with him on air, and he dissed every gangsta rapper in the industry by name. Talking about who he would like to fight one on one. If only Scott Burns didn’t steal, then lose that recording. These are pics from his more recent visit, and some new music from him. Make sure you cop Murs & Ski Beatz: Love & Rockets Vol. 1 (The Transformation)
Oh you know the house band for the Jimmy Fallon show, they can actually write music and they aren’t terrible. They are releasing their 10 millionth album December 3. It is called Undun . It is a concept album. Giving us an existential retelling of the short life of Redford Stevens. Here is the first new song to surface.
Dubstep seems to be going the same way as Drum N Bass. Losing all it’s soul and warmth in favour of being the biggest most over the top bass drop competition. Even so, occasionally tracks like this one surface getting me all nostalgic about my favourite jungle chunes.
I really had to stop myself from singing along to this. Ahead of the Player Haters Ball on this Saturday at Good God, Joyride gives us a little taste of what you can expect from his set. With just an acoustic guitar and his voice, he gives us a superb rendition of Frank Ocean’s ‘Novacane’. It is a rather raw recording from the show, I just added a bit compression in garage band. Hopefully the quality is okay.
Equal totally punked me. You’ll have to listen to find out what I am talking about. Equal is a DJ you will find playing all over New York in a range of very different settings. He hits us with a bumping mix of new hip hop. It is stoopid fresh.
Also everybody’s favourite crooning DJ/Producer guy, Joyride joins us in the studio. He gives us a little teaser of what to expect from his set at the Player Haters Ball this Saturday at Good God. His cover of ‘Novacane’ by Frank Ocean is well worth the bandwidth necessary to hear it.
I think we are going to start printing t-shirts that say ‘Rick Ross blocked me on Twitter”.

This Sunday at Ching-a-lings is totally going to be like this. Naiki San, myself and a random cat floating through Shinjuku in a flying saucer shooting lasers out of our eyes. As a little teaser, I thought I would post one of my favourite Naiki mixes from the show. This is a G-Funk vs P-Funk selection from back in 2008. Sorry about my over excited yelling on the mic.
It’s been a while in between drinks for me and a terradome set on the show. We have been crazy busy with all the awsome guests we have had in so that is my excuse. Here is a mix i did a while back now on the show, It has a bunch of different tunes, Some Dancehall, Hip hop, Digital Cumbia vibes and some future beat biz. Shantan put it up on the Stolen Records soundcloud, and added a bunch of drops from some of those mentioned awsome guests. Here it is plus some freeloads from the mix. Enjoy. More mixes from me here. The second single from Common’s new album The Dreamer, The Believer due out November 22. It seems like Common has come full circle and is working again with Chicago producer No I.D., who worked on a some of his earlier releases. Maybe I am the only one, but I just wish he would take it back a little further and start rapping with the squeal in his voice again. Remember those days in hip hop history, when everybody had to have a little gimmick in their flow (Ala Das Efx)?
