Ay Caramba: New Jack Swingers Club

MC Hammer Signed Photo

We do this party each week at Ching-a-lings on a Sunday. This week we are transforming the place into the Blue Light Disco of your youth. It will have everything short of Rodney O yelling on the mic, Kulcha performing and gangs of Bombers trying to steal your Reebok Pumps.

Break out those mustard keppers, put those lines in your eyebrows, do yourself up stupid fresh, because when Boyz II Men ‘End of the Road’ comes on, you know it will be suck face time.

Running man competition kicks off at 7pm. Sign up at the bar. We will be giving away a signed* and framed photo of MC Hammer.

*signature may not actually be written by MC Hammer himself.

Video: Shaggy Live Radio Freestyle on FBi Radio

A little while ago, Shaggy was in the country to celebrate his 42nd birthday. It was a promotion for 42 Below Vodka, where if you e-stalk Shaggy on twitter and mob him in the streets when he checks into locations around Sydney, you could win an invite to his party at Good God.

Now though Shaggy’s performance at the party was a lot of fun, he mostly played other peoples songs, hyped them up, and then got the crowd to sing a few of his tracks. It was a good party, but in the end Shaggy did more actual singing on our radio show than anywhere else in Australia.

You may know the pop star Shaggy, but here you’ll witness an amazing dancehall artist in action.

Sample Snitching: Teena Marie a.k.a. Lady T Tribute

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1crrw_teena-marie-lovergirl_music
Possibly one of the first white rappers, and definitely the only white soul artist of the 80’s that had consistent, credible hits on the R&B charts, Teena Marie died on Sunday at the age of 54. To pay our tribute, we thought we would post some Teena Marie classics and some of the hip hop songs she inspired. Oh and check out her rap verse on Square Biz. Fyyyyaaahhhh!

Dionne Warwick – You’re Gonna Need Me

Dionne WarwickIf I was stuck on a desert island with just one song, Dionne Warwick’s “You’re Gonna Need Me” just might be that record I pick. Have been binging on this song again this weekend. Released in 1973, you can get it on her album Just Being Me.

Bangs – Christmas Story

How can anybody dislike Bangs? Good to see he has still got it. Let us pray he never learns to speak English fluently. He is just too lovable how he is… ‘It’s your boy Bangs. You nahmean, ah haaaa!’

Here are some other Christmas songs that don’t make you want to go on a killing spree in Myer as much as having to listen to ‘Six White Boomers’ on repeat. Which Christmas song do you hate the most?

Pharoahe Monch Interview on Pancakes

Pancakes, The Hoods, J Dilla. Some of the things we talk about with the Pharoahe. We thought we would re-up this on the blog, since Mr Monch is in town for a wee Australian tour.

Nippon, Nipples and the Funky Forest

Did you miss me? We have been a little quiet over here as I made a last minute decision to head over to Japan for a rather bizarre sort of a trip. Not strange in the same way as the video above, but a totally different variety of bizarreness. I would like it very much to tell you the details, but I am saving it for the memoirs, neatly filed under crazy things one does for… hmmm… Onigiri.

Baby Monkey + Pig = Earworm

This stupid song has dug a hole in my head, kicked off its shoes, opened a six-pack and made itself at home in my brain.

At what capacity are a baby monkey and a pig together for this to happen? Seriously, is this even cute?

It’s going onto day three of humming this stupidly catchy tune. Both me and the pig need to get this monkey off our backs. Sigh…

(pssst! don’t know what an earworm is? then let the urban dictionary school you here.)

Karma Karma Karma Chameleon

Our neighbours must think us rather strange. One moment it is Project Pat, then Surf Rock, UK Funky, The Strokes, some old soul, SWV and now my flatmate has been pumping Bollywood through our apartment block. The track above is the gem he is addicted to.

Oh so… FBi 94.5 FM, a Sydney radio station that we do a show at is drawing to the end of it’s supporter drive. The theme this year is Instant Karma, and if you heard our show on Wednesday you would have heard us getting into the spirit with a big mix of Bhangra. If you are a regular listener and have been considering signing up, now is the time to do it with so many prizes up for grabs. Head to the fbiradio.com fore more details.

Autumn LeavesIt is funny how some songs will always have an association with certain people in your life. You hear it on the radio or find it on a blog somewhere, and the memories come rushing back.
