OoOoOoh! It’s a Hindi Halloween Party!

I bought this red leather jacket recently. Totally unwearable. Thought it was the best thing ever, but I haven’t worn it once. I’ll just look like the Indian Michael Jackson. Not something that I think the girls of Sydney are ready for.

This week is both Halloween and FBi Radio’s ‘Instant Karma Supporter Drive’, where you sign up as a member of the station and we help you along in your search for Nirvana. At Stolen Records we are a sucker for a theme, so we thought we would combine it into a Hindi Halloween Party on your radio.

Here is a taste of what to expect…

Rant: So Appalled – Kanye West Helps Me Bitch

Larry David is one bad-ass mofo (yep, that’s Vivica Fox hollering in the back) and makes a living telling funny jokes. But what’s not funny is the subject in question: product packaging.

Do you know what’s so appalling? Vacuum packaging or packaging altogether for that matter. Fuck this waste-conscious period where everything is sealed with minimal yet airtight packaging (and fuck the factory robots that are programmed to do so). I’m tired of being thwarted by packaged items that lack a tab, slit or pull-back flap to make opening as seamless as possible. I recently bought a pair of headphones and after an unnecessary period of time I finally broke into the packaging where my finger was promptly sliced open by a sharp edge of plastic. That shit is fucking ridiculous.

What do you think is so appalling?

P Money: Ho Riddim – Dirty Grime, Gutter Beats, Sick Vocals

P Money makes me wanna dress in black, put on a balaclava, and shank somebody in an alley down in Souf Lundon.  He recently teamed up with Marco Del Horno and DJ Swerve and dropped this dirty “Ho! Riddim”.

This track makes me wanna bounce my ho to this riddim or make my riddim to bounce this… Ho!

Interview: K-Os speaks on Drake’s Success

The super annoying thing about this interview is that the mic wasn’t recording properly, so the audio quality ain’t great. But here it is, a snippet of our interview with K-Os talking about the success of fellow Canadian Drake.

Mz Bratt – Selecta & Who’s Greenmoney

Mz Bratt“alie, shes choong!! sho, fittest gal in britain an best female grime rapper innit”

Does anybody in England speak English anymore? That was one of the comments I noticed on a Mz Bratt interview. Look out for this very ‘choong’ rapper from East London. She first popped up doing her thing with big time grime producer Terror Danjah, since then she starred in Reality TV show Musicool, done some touring with Count & Sinden and got a bit of Radio 1 love, and recently has been dropping bomb after bomb. Yeah, she only has a few verses, but they are all good ones.

Bliss N Eso Live Semi-Freestyle Rapping (circa 2007)

I think this one was 2007. That is my guess. Bliss N Eso swing by the studio for some titty fart bum bum rhymes. Later some of these verses were released as part of songs on albums. Check out Bliss N Eso’s new LP ‘Running On Air’. Whenever I hear the title of the new album Joey Scarbury’s ‘Believe It Or Not (I’m Walking On Air)’ plays in my head.

Life, Parks and Heavy Bass Drops!

Parklife in Brisbane. Fun times had. Highlights include taking out of focus pictures of dirty girls and little people, getting mistaken for DJ Mehdi twice and hearing the track below. This is Doctor P’s ‘Sweet Shop’. It features grime rapper P Money – one of the few good grime rappers still doing grime, and murking it. I heard this around three times at Parklife in Brissy, so if you are heading to the event anywhere else in Australia expect to hear a few DJ’s drop this. If only we could do a pull up on the link below.

Cover Up: Barrett Strong, Gloria Jones & George Clinton

DJ GrannyYou know when you discover the original of a track that you didn’t realise was a cover? Here are two examples of said type of tracks; Gloria Jones’ ‘Tainted Love’ and  Barrett Strong’s ‘Money’. Both are totally rad, but both have been totally overshadowed by their later covers.

The Gloria Jones track was originally recorded in 1965 and covered by Soft Cell in 1981. While the Barrett Strong tune has been covered by a shitload of artists, but The Flying Lizard’s version is the one you will see on rage and being played in indie bars.  Enjoy!

Kano – Method to the Maadness

Kano on a scooter in Aiya Napa in 2003

They might seem mean and anti-social, but the grime kids just want to be liked. But it seems in their quest for popularity they end up making some rather questionable music. Anything by Tinchy Stryder these days and Dizzee’s ‘Dirtee Disco’ are just some examples. Though Kano’s aims might be quite similar, he just seems to do it a little more classy.

He has just released a new album, ‘Method to the Maadness’, and it has some big tunes with production from the likes of Boys Noize, Hot Chip, Chase & Status and Diplo. He tried the R&B thing a while ago, and now that he is working with some electro producers it’s just infinitely more credible than the embarrassing electro pop shit that everybody else is making.
