At 11pm, when the club was empty, we had those doubts that every party host has – “Shit, nobody is going come. Nobody likes us. Think I will eat some worms”.

Fortunately, we avoided a diet of worms. By 12 midnight, the dancefloor was already heaving and a line gathered outside the door of Tatler as folks squeezed into our tropical basement party.

With Charlie Villas, Mike Who, Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Tropicante and Sr Bolivar throwing down Caribbean Rhythms more pineapples were kissed, inflatable palm trees were danced with, and all were merry.

Pineapple Republic is our Bi Monthly late night Tropical Pachanga, in your favourite below sea level den, Tatler. The last one was heaving. Pineapples were caressed, people got low and selectors ran the dance with deep Latin and Caribbean heat.

Expect more of the same with your local heros Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Alongside The Colombian connection Sr. Bolivar and Tropicante, plus our special guest Huwston.

And to get it all started the night will feature dance performances from the 101 DOLL SQUADRON! SQUAADDDDD!

Mixtape Mondays with the bros from Paper Plane Project. These dudes have just dropped a solid mix paying homage to the electric piano. The mix focuses on current international soul/jazz-infused hip hop and beats all made using their favourite instrument. I remember the first time PPP came through Stolen Records with hype brewing around their first album, since then they have continued to push and evolve their own unique sound, Finishing off a second instant classic album called Miles Apart. Mixtape Mondays with Ruckus Roboticus

Ok so this Mixtape Monday is a history lesson, but it’s a fun histroy lesson that’s not actually that old. Today we’re revisiting one of the most hyped mixes of 2007, Ruckus Robotics The Music Machine Mix, which was awarded Solid Steels best mix of the Year in 07, which is pretty much the mixtape game equivalent to winning a Oscar. The mix itself goes everywhere from the Micky Mouse club to Bow Wow and the Avalanches to LCD soudsystem, all laced together with subtle cuts and playful samples to keep things fun and interesting. The mix is ripped from the Beat Oracle radio show on WCRS, so you will here some chit chat and history from Ruckus himself. Big Ups Beat Oracle for making this downloadable and available to the rest of the world. This mix won’t be for everyone, but for those who can appreciate a dj with serious skills and sense of humor, then this is for you. Ruckus Roboticus went on to release an insanely good album “Playing With Scratches” and continues to blow minds with mixtapes, originals, remixes and edits.
