I have done New Year at Goodgod for the past couple of years and this has been the best one yet. So much fun. So many great people. So much great music. So loose. So much sloppy mixing 😀
People poured into the Front Bar from 10pm to a soundtrack of 80s pop and soul vibes. It didn’t take long before the 80s Homecoming Prom was heaving. Leading up to midnight, Levins took control of the decks starting 2014 with a healthy dose of Prince.
We opened up the Jiggy Year 10 Formal in the backroom at midnight, starting off with some really slow Mariah and building our way up into a frenzy. With both rooms swinging into the early hours of New Years Day, we couldn’t have hoped for a better way to start the year.
Thanks to everybody that played – Mike Who, Radge, Ariane, and Joyride – Levins for partnering in organising it – and all that came along, dressed up, drank and danced. So good!
The lords of the dance Levins and Shantan are returning to the Goodgod Dancereria for the second ever POP THAT – the night that bridges the gap between rap and club sounds from all over the world.
This time they’ve invited a friend from Brisbane to join the festivities – a young wizard by the name of SAMPOLOGY who has just returned from his American tour!
We’ll be playing all things rappy and trappy, poppy and sloppy. Come shake your butts with this trio of kool DJs.
Wooooaah! Did not expect it to be that rammed. By midnight we had to stop letting people in as the party reached capacity. It was another night of Caribbean music and intense booty shaking not restricted to our Dutty Dance Off. Congratulations to Audrey for taking out the competition and winning herself a top notch cask of wine valued at $15. Totally worth it. Our selectors took us on a journey through the wide range of sounds starting with roots reggae, into new and classic dancehall with a bit of Ska, Moombahton, Latin Heat, Bashment and Soca thrown in for good measure – then ended it at 4am with some Old School Jungle.

Shake, grind, and jig your way into 2013 with a nostalgic R&B tribute of ludicrous proportions! Each Player Haters Ball has seen Goodgod reach peak party mode with a live band serenading the Danceteria with cheeky covers of those feel-good nostalgic jams everyone knows and loves.
This special NYE edition of The Player Haters Ball will take over the full venue! The Left Eyes ft. Milan Ring will be recapping all the best tributes of the year including Destiny’s Child, The Neptunes, R Kelly, TLC and more! For every other moment, DJs Shantan Wantan Ichiban and Mike Who will be keeping the feet moving and the inhibitions low with Hip Hop, R&B and Soul selections from the past, present and future!
Keeping things loose limbed in the Front Bar is Smart Casual (Jingle Jangle) and Daniel Darling (Yo Grito!/Kill City Creeps) serving up rollicking dancebarn stormers ~ garage rock, blues, rhythm, soul, exotic groovers and beyond.
An all-round sure-thing for a memorable New Year’s Eve!

I only got there at midnight really unsure what I would find when I opened the doors to that dark burrow buried at the back of Goodgod Small Club. To my surprise I found a packed room and a dancefloor in full swing.
Thumping Caribbean rhythms and so much booty shaking. When the night was done we were picking up discarded bum cheeks dislodged during violent ass moving.
Thanks to the Dance Central crew for an awesome performance, and everybody that jumped in the circle.

Gappy Ranks is one of the artists at the forefront of a resurgence in UK reggae music. Not since the 80s and artists like Smiley Culture, have there been English reggae artists that have been able to record hits in the UK, which also received respect and success back in Jamaica. Gappy Ranks however has been changing that.
Not long after his first visit to Australia in September last year, Gappy returned to our shores to merk it once more. Here are some shots from his performance at Goodgod with supports from Hoops, Jimmy Sing & Judgement, Naiki and the African Essence Dancers.
Also I have uploaded one of the tracks he performed. A reggae song about his experience being in Japan when the earthquake hit last year.

Goodgod has to be my favourite place to DJ. The right audience for me to play all the different stuff that I really love. I am playing in the front room with for New Years Eve from midnight till close. This will be the place to go if you want to dance like crazy to awesome shit. Hip Hop, R&B, random pop, maybe some Dancehall, maybe some Rock N Roll, and when the time is right, I will start throwing on a bit of baby making music to get you layed.

Giving Jenny Craig a run for their money. It was like if Zumba had a cousin on crack. We are calling it Zumbaton. It is the latest sweaty dance work out, which we tested out at Goodgod for Badonkadonk.
Except for me, who was just playing the same old cheese that I always do, it was a night where DJs got to play stuff they never do anywhere else. Mike Who was going deep on the latin, cumbia, moombahton party vibes. Levin’s was having fun not playing hip hop for once. And Kato was just going ill.
I hope you burned some calories and had a good time doing it.
A sad, but happy affair. For more than a year, Mike Who has been putting in work behind the decks on Stolen Records. Bringing such amazing DJ skills, and a fantastic taste and knowledge of hip hop, Caribbean and Latin music. This was his last show before he moves to the north of Chile. Make sure you are at our going away party for him BADONKADONK at GOODGOD on Saturday.
Also we were joined by experimental indie rapper, Busdriver. What is it about The Good Life/Project Blowed rappers? He did one of the best freestyles we had on the show since we had Aceyalone on our show years ago. That scene of rappers originally based around open mic nights at The Good Life cafe has created some amazing emcees with a free flowing style of freestyle.
