A night of Latin, Caribbean, and Tropical Bass vibes with not even one ‘Gasolina’ request. Mind blowing.
As Tatlers filled up and the temperature rose, it truly felt like a basement party somewhere in the tropics. With DJs Mike Who, Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Sr. Bolivar & Kato playing a fusion of progressive Latin-Caribbean rhythms and Global Club jams you almost never hear in Australia, it was a little surprising how quickly it turned into a real party with vigorous hip shaking in every corner of the small Kings Cross nightspot.
Look out for the next party in April. The Pineapple Republic is awaiting your return, in the meantime you will have to be satisfied with dancing in your bedroom to the following mix by Mike Who…
Listen: Adele – Rankin In The Deep (Harvey K TEL Remix)
Listen: Quantic and His Combo Barbaro – Mi Canto A Tierra (J Boogie Remix)
Warming up before any night out is key. Especially if you’re warming up for two of the hottest summer events showcasing a mix dancehall, latin heat and tropical bass – complete with plenty of ass-shaking, grinding, dizzy footwork and dutty wining. Gappy Ranks and Radio Maleme rolled through today and lawd, did they ever show us how to get a dancefloor moving.
Gracing the Australian shores from London, Gappy came at us 110% with a solid interview and a bashment live performance. Melbourne’s RU-CL came in strong with support and hey, during their performance my hips in the studio weren’t the only ones gyrating.
Radio Maleme representing part of the Pineapple Republic, finished the show with a spicy, caliente, tropcial latin heat. Rapid BPM’s, soulful singing and the perfect mix had people calling far and wide wondering who the heck is blowing up the airwaves and where did we get him from. His name is Sr Bolivar and he is from Colombia, folks. That’s right COLOMBIA. Knowing his stuff, Sr Bolivar provided the perfect preview for next week’s Pineapple Republic – a night you will not want to miss.
Want to know more? Of course you do.

What better way to celebrate the arrival of the English to Australia, than a heavy dose of Caribbean music? These are the photos from our multicultural straya day celebration – unfortunately we didn’t get pictures of the Dancestudio 101 doing there thing. Totally killer!
Strooof! Get this up ya on Straya Day! Guaranteed riper of a dancehall shindig. Sydney’s premier night for Caribbean rhythms, hot sweaty dancing and top sorts. Plus it is only $5 if you sign up here…
It starts off okay, and gets pretty shit towards the middle. Yes, it is our annual Christmas special. Bon Bon Battles, terrible jokes, silly hats and every genre of Christmas song you could imagine. Ellesquire and Raoul Von Trapaport join us to do some of their worst freestyles ever on trap christmas songs. Milan Ring comes in to do a non-xmas cover – Frank Ocean’s ‘Pink Matter’ mixed with Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Swimming Pools’. Ho Ho Ho Bittccchhhheeezzz!
Errr… Somebody give me 5 litres of water. That was just way too bigger dose of fun on a school night. This week in Sydney has been crazy artists on the Steresonic tour popping up at Sydney Clubs for some secret and not so secret sets. Both Brodinski and Geffenstein were sighted playing hip hop sets at the Flinders, while across town Major Lazer were bringing bedlam to a small nightspot. I thought our Destiny’s Child tribute was big. The line for this went all around the block. If Major Lazer playing a Bashment Party at Goodgod was meant to be a secret, it was a very poorly kept one. It was also meant to be a Reggae, Dancehall, Bashment party, but after Walshy Fire dropped Daft Punk it became something else. Too much crazy for a small hot dingy little room.
I only got there at midnight really unsure what I would find when I opened the doors to that dark burrow buried at the back of Goodgod Small Club. To my surprise I found a packed room and a dancefloor in full swing.
Thumping Caribbean rhythms and so much booty shaking. When the night was done we were picking up discarded bum cheeks dislodged during violent ass moving.
Thanks to the Dance Central crew for an awesome performance, and everybody that jumped in the circle.
Look out for the next party, last Saturday of January 2013.
It is on again. Some of Sydney’s best dancehall reggae DJs join forces again for a night of Caribbean rhythms and salacious dancing. In addition, we have added Mike Who to line up as he returns Latin America.

It was a little controversial and not well received by all. I heard quite a few complaints from women saying – “How can a man win a Dancehall Queen contest?”. However, the majority of the mob decided and Jose took home the much sort after Rum filled Watermelon and was crowned Dancehall Man Queen in our Dutty Dancing Contest.
All together this was an amazing night. The dancefloor stayed packed with bodies grinding the night away to the best of new and classic dancehall reggae hits. Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Basslines and Nick Toth throwing everything they had at the crowd.
Make sure you are back in late November for more tropical riddims and gringos talking patois. Booyakashaaaa!
If you missed out here is a little taste of the musical vibes…
