Have I heard this track before or is Drake just a tad repetitive? I am never really sure listening to this album. I could have sworn I heard that Asian girls line elsewhere. And all the talk about “success, and people not believing in him, but we going to make it”, makes me want rappers to read less Tim Robbins and talk more about crack. Having said all that there are some moments on this album I’m really loving. I haven’t liked Drake’s really wet stuff before, but here it is a little more moody and ‘Weeknd-esk’. Think I might need to spend a little more time with this record. Look out for it’s official release November 15.

She was a troubled girl, but there has always been something I have admired about her rugged charm, brash sense of humour and honesty, which comes out with such feeling in her music. We got a lot of good feedback from this mix, so here it is in all it’s separate glory. It includes some Amy Winehouse classics, some remixes, plus some of the tracks she sampled and covered. I keep hearing about random hook ups that happened at the Player Haters Ball. I think that is the mark of a good party. A very attractive, mixed crowd flocked to Good God Small Club for a night of Joyride and The Accidents playing R&B covers with a couple of originals, while Levins and I spin jams. Technically it was a sell out, but we kept letting people in. A hot, sweaty, drunken night of partying. Here are some photos from around 3:30am.
London producer, SBTRKT’s self-titled album is my favourite record of this year. We were lucky enough to chat to him ahead of his Australia tour. Also master of the baked goods DJ Ability swings passed the studio with some tasty custard tarts and equally scrumptious dancehall bass. It is our bass special. A little less rappy and more electronicy than usual.

Oh you know the house band for the Jimmy Fallon show, they can actually write music and they aren’t terrible. They are releasing their 10 millionth album December 3. It is called Undun . It is a concept album. Giving us an existential retelling of the short life of Redford Stevens. Here is the first new song to surface.
Dubstep seems to be going the same way as Drum N Bass. Losing all it’s soul and warmth in favour of being the biggest most over the top bass drop competition. Even so, occasionally tracks like this one surface getting me all nostalgic about my favourite jungle chunes.
I really had to stop myself from singing along to this. Ahead of the Player Haters Ball on this Saturday at Good God, Joyride gives us a little taste of what you can expect from his set. With just an acoustic guitar and his voice, he gives us a superb rendition of Frank Ocean’s ‘Novacane’. It is a rather raw recording from the show, I just added a bit compression in garage band. Hopefully the quality is okay.
