I have done New Year at Goodgod for the past couple of years and this has been the best one yet. So much fun. So many great people. So much great music. So loose. So much sloppy mixing ūüėÄ

People poured into the Front Bar from 10pm to a soundtrack of 80s pop and soul vibes. It didn’t take long before the 80s Homecoming Prom was heaving. Leading up to midnight, Levins took control of the decks starting 2014 with a healthy dose of Prince.

We opened up the Jiggy Year 10 Formal in the backroom at midnight, starting off with some really slow Mariah and building our way up into a frenzy. With both rooms swinging into the early hours of New Years Day, we couldn’t have hoped for a better way to start the year.

Thanks to everybody that played – Mike Who, Radge, Ariane, and Joyride – Levins for partnering in organising it – and all that came along, dressed up, drank and danced. So good!

The Panini Has Landed with a Word from Europe

Memphis Millions, Disco Samba and the June Lodge vinyl

Memphis Millions, Disco Samba and the June Lodge vinyl

Hello. That’s English for ‘Hello’ because I’m in The Netherlands where everyone speaks English! I always feel like a dickhead going to a non-English speaking country flapping my gums and speaking the only language I know how to speak in my shrill North American accent. But alas, I’ve been reminded that I’m not that much of a dickhead (I still sound American) and it’s ok to speak English in Holland, so chill bruh.

After 25hrs, I finally made my destination (and yes, it took me 2 weeks to write a post – jet lag and complications bitches). Flight was great! I was flying with some delicious New Zealand rugby players, wine was flowing and the woman next to me only tried to put her bum on me twice. Then things started to get dark and I remembered that I took quite a strong tranquilizer before boarded and just like that – boom, I’m knocked the fuck out – for 10 hours. I SLEPT FOR 10 STRAIGHT HOURS on an international flight. If that doesn’t break some kind of record I don’t know what will. When I finally came to I was in Abu Dhabi. I won’t bore you with details but there was a shit-ton of cheese, Arab bread and wine. I was happy.

On my second day here, my friend Tom arranged for us to have a play date. We took a train to Antwerp, Belgium where my day was filled with sites, strong beer and vinyl shopping. There was soooo many records and look, as an amateur, I wanted them ALL. Classics, new shit, obscure French Canadian country hits, local music and so much more. However, I bucked the fuck up, kept it real and for 13 Euro I think I made off with quite a steal. Los Jo√£o’s Disco Samba literally made me dance like I was in carnival and I couldn’t pass a throwback to 70s soul and funk with the Memphis Millions LP (featuring Isaac Hayes’ theme from Shaft!). I took it easy on this trip as my friend has a lot of records already (such as June Lodge and Rick James), but I’m eager to get more. Stay tuned.

Tot ziens. (that’s Dutch for ‘see you later’)

Photos: Electric Punanny at Dutty Dancing

Electric Punanny killed this. I was having so much fun, I started backing it up on everybody. Haven’t danced as inappropriately for a while.

With amazing selection and mic skills, Jasmine Solano and Melo X give us a taste of what happens between the sweaty walls of Sway nightclub in New York at Electric Punanny. They brought the vibes. Goodgod’s Danceteria was full with asses bouncing everywhere. We definitely met the booty shaking quota one comes to expect from a Dutty Dancing.

Louis played as well, as did I (though maybe I was a little too turnt). We danced, we drank, we were merry, then ended up at Super Bowl eating Congee.

The Hommies High Times Mixtape

high times

This is a project that recently dropped from some fam in the far north of Chile in Iquique, a place i like to call my home away from home.

The Hommies fly the flag high for weed rap, sun, beach life and blissed out vibes that seem to go hand in hand with this part of the country.  Made up collectively of Art Biz, Okram, Jo$e Spaace, Sanel y Dj Bootleg aka Discos G, These are some talented dudes from a place you should def check into if your in that part of the world.

Burn one down, check the tape and if your ever travelling through make sure you look them up, more than hospitable crew!

Janini Panini Says: “Auf Wiedersehen”

RADIO SHOW: LISTEN TO FULL SHOW WITH MONCHICHI & B WISE LIVE RAPPING + JANINI TAKE OVER <<< CLICK ME!!!!

All it took for me to have input on the programming was that it had to be my last show. Oh my God, Wednesday was MY LAST SHOW!!

Ok, so my mix was a bit random. I was like a kid in a candy store, I wanted to have one of everything. In the set, I made sure to sprinkle some Canadian goodness (most of it old school and none of it Drake), I tossed in some R & B, mixed in some hip hop and doused it ever-so-slightly with a bit of ratchet. I got a lot of love on the SMS line – I was surprised and it made me feel good, then sad, because I’m leaving.

It sounds like such a clich√© that I’m shit at goodbyes.¬† I’ve had such a blast over the last 2+ years on Stolen Records. I’ve learned a shit-ton of radio stuff, perfected my off-mic Janini Panini diva tantrum and got to hang out with the two coolest guys on radio. And not to be forgotten, I got to interact with you, our listeners through social media and at times in person.

So thank you Sydney and people who live in Sydney – for being such a great city housing great people doing great things. But let’s not get awkward about this. I’ve moving overseas not underground and where there’s Internet there’s me. See you in cyberspace.

Auf Wiedersehen. xx
