She was a troubled girl, but there has always been something I have admired about her rugged charm, brash sense of humour and honesty, which comes out with such feeling in her music. We got a lot of good feedback from this mix, so here it is in all it’s separate glory. It includes some Amy Winehouse classics, some remixes, plus some of the tracks she sampled and covered. My Friday just got 300 percent better stumbling across this Christmas mix by Lowbee on soundcloud. There will be haters as yes this mix is hella soft and has heaps of shit cheesy songs. But and i say But listen it’s Killer…It’s a journey through an “endless sea of gentle grooves” as LowBee puts it and anyone willing to make a tape like this is funny and awsome. I really need to get a copy of the first freestyles Just and Lupi did on the radio back when we did a late night show. They were two really hungry, talented high school kids that we got in to spit, while their parents wait to pick them up afterwards. I meant to put these up a while ago. These are drunken photos by Emma mostly of Sonny, Anya and I striking a few poses at FBi’s Winter Prom in July. It was a cracking good party, taking it’s inspiration from all those American TV proms rather than your own daggy formals. Though I was actually king at my formal, it was a chance to do it all again and correct everything that was awkward and horrible at your high school formal. It was amazingly decorated, everybody looked so good and indie cover band – Fan Fixion – weren’t terrible either. In my dreams, this is everything I imagined the Stolen Records Gala Ball to be.

I was at Parklife last year in Brisbane for work and as the other Lacoste wearing brown person in Queensland I kept getting mistaken for Mehdi at various pre-festival parties. As ridiculous as it was I was thinking if I could pull off a French accent, I could really clean up here. Later I did a brief interview with Mehdi, and ended up bumping into him a couple of times over following week or so. Though my encounters were brief, he really did come across as that good natured, good humoured person that you hear about from so many of the people that knew him well.

Last week when I heard the tragic news, I started going through the Mehdi stuff I had and collecting a few other bits. I ended up putting together this mix for the show, playing some of his older hip hop production, newer hip hoppy stuff, remixes and some of the original tracks he sampled. I am sure there are some better tributes other there like this one from Feadz and this hip hop mix by Abcdr du Son, but even so this is our hommage.
