This mixtape Mondays we revisit a set from a while back from Mayer Hawthorne aka Dj Haircut at L.A’s much hyped Do over party. Let’s hope their weren’t too many chumps tweeting or texting emoticons while he was rolling through these tunes. Plenty of disco, funk, boogie, 80’s golden era rap classics and inappropriate OH SNAP drops to enjoy this monday.
Haven’t been putting up the podcasts anymore, just because you can stream the show each week at fbiradio.com now. However, this weeks show was too massive not to blog.
Exile and Fashawn came by the studio. Exile playing a very special set of all his own productions, then Fashawn dropped an exclusive freestyle.
Also we had Sydney soul artists Alphamama and Milan performing a cover of Destiny’s Child ahead of the Player Haters Ball Destiny’s Child tribute this Saturday.

Hello everybody, this is Lino, reporting live from sunny San Diego. Shantan has recruited me to post some music on here to increase the global presence of his Stolen Records empire. I’ll start by showcasing some tunes from the underrated beat scene around SD.
Freddie has been releasing records since 2006 and djing since 96. He definitely shows a throwback jazz influence, and on the whole his songs are just pleasing to listen to. It’s like sitting in the park on a warm day with a wine festival in the background. Definitely cop his releases on iTunes, but also peep his remix work that he regularly releases for free.
Question is definitely in the same realm of Joachim, displaying strong instrumental arrangements that stand up on their own without any vocals. He is also an OG in the DJ game, spinning records since the early 90’s, and regularly releases fine tunes on his bandcamp. His sound is like two stepping at a jazz club on five dollar gin and juice night.
Last but not least, Mike is the mad genius behind using beat boxing as a midi controller and tetris shapes as a jazz chord generator. His compositions show a technical flair, in that I am often mystified as to how he gets his chops to sound how they sound and his drums to swing how they swing. Since I am in California posting on this Oz based blog, I figured it was only right to post Gao’s song remixed by beat maestro from Perth, Taku.
After painfully hearing one to many recounts of how amazing Prince was in Sydney a few months back, my tolerance was wearing thin. That was until last week when Mega Sydney homie Archie sent me this jem of a mix . The mix is a live one take all 45’s mix from the man himself with nothing but heat from the artist formerly known as…Put on your healed boots and get freaky to this. Meow!!
So for anyone unfamiliar with the term Twerk my advice is to consulte the most reliable source on the internet for pretty much anything ever the urban dictionary I’ll leave the mystery up to you. But for now here are some choons and a cheeky edit i made to get your twerk on.
As I have mentioned before, I do music workshops for a project called Heaps Decent. We do a program called Homebase each Monday at Redfern Community Centre. Here are some photos from last week’s studio tomfoolery.
Everyone’s favourite prom themed block party is BACK! And this time with a Destiny’s Child Tribute.
After packing out Goodgod with their R KELLY and NEPTUNES Tributes, the Player Hater’s Ball returns with a night playing hommage to the works of DESTINY’S CHILD.
All girl soul band, ALPHAMAMA will be joining them and they’ll be playing two sets ~ The second will be nothing but hits from Beyonce, Kelly and those other girls.
Keeping the dancefloor packed all night with the most luscious of R&B, Hip Hop and Soul selections will be Joyride, Lev Dawg, and Shantan Wantan Ichiban.
To get you warmed up, here is a little Destiny’s Child Tribute mix. It’s a bit more left field of what we will playing on the night, but will definitely get you in the mood.

This Mixtape Mondays goes trap with Chicago production duo Flosstradamus. They have been consistently blowing minds of recent churning out heavy club goodness. I remember playing their laffy taffy and drop the pressure bootlegs way too much when i first started listening to club stuff. Now they are pretty much the benchmark for the muched hyped trap sound and this mix is solid. I have to admit i have been sucked into the hype lately and have been wishing i could actually play some of this out without getting weird looks. Anyway get your imaginary gun fingers out shoot some ceilings and count your change in your living room or workplace. Stay Trap.
I kinda missed this as I was holding down the fort, Djing in the front of Goodgod Small Club, as the rest of the gang staged a take over of the Sydney Opera House for Vivid Festival. Though I heard many reports of all sorts of craziness as everybody flooded back to the club afterwards to party till 6am. Here is a little bit of photographic evidence of what went down when Nicky Da B, Egyptian Lover and Prince Zimboo brought the party to the Nun’s Scrum.
Listen: Nicky Da B – Beat Down The Block
Listen: Nicky Da B – Hot Potato Style
Listen: Diplo ft Nicky Da B – Express Yourself
Listen: Egyptian Lover – Freak-A-Holic
Listen: Prince Zimboo – Shut Off
Listen: Major Lazer ft M.I.A. & Prince Zimboo – Baby (Switch Remix)
