I will be honest. We are going to have to get our own soundsystem next time we do this. Great turn out, capacity event, hot people, lots of hip shaking and drunken unruliness, but some problems with sound. With a few more people in the room it was hard to get it loud it enough with out the speakers cutting out.
Even so, it was still an amazing night of Rock N Roll and Soul from the 50s and 60s, and we are going to work hard to make sure the next one is even more swinging.

The hipsters can have hip hop, I am taking Rock N Roll. It seems like everybody is trying to do hip hop parties in Sydney. The game is over saturated. So while I play rap for people that book me, I am trying to do something different with my nights.
This Friday we have a Rock N Roll and Soul night happening at Hollywood Hotel called Mashed Potato. Watch out Dusty Fingers and Loose Joints. We about to take over. Getting that Rockabilly money.

As much as she has been lacking in manners the last time or so she came by the studio, Sky’high’s new stuff is pretty nice. For those unacquainted, Sky is semi a representative of the searcher/adlay culture in Sydney. Kinda like our version of a ‘chav’, you will see lads wearing Nike hats and shorts, air max, nautica polos, talking in pig latin and generally being a nuisance. London producer, SBTRKT’s self-titled album is my favourite record of this year. We were lucky enough to chat to him ahead of his Australia tour. Also master of the baked goods DJ Ability swings passed the studio with some tasty custard tarts and equally scrumptious dancehall bass. It is our bass special. A little less rappy and more electronicy than usual.

I really need to get a copy of the first freestyles Just and Lupi did on the radio back when we did a late night show. Last week when I heard the tragic news, I started going through the Mehdi stuff I had and collecting a few other bits. I ended up putting together this mix for the show, playing some of his older hip hop production, newer hip hoppy stuff, remixes and some of the original tracks he sampled. I am sure there are some better tributes other there like this one from Feadz and this hip hop mix by Abcdr du Son, but even so this is our hommage.
