Mixtape Mondays with the bros from Paper Plane Project. These dudes have just dropped a solid mix paying homage to the electric piano. The mix focuses on current international soul/jazz-infused hip hop and beats all made using their favourite instrument. I remember the first time PPP came through Stolen Records with hype brewing around their first album, since then they have continued to push and evolve their own unique sound, Finishing off a second instant classic album called Miles Apart. Which by the way you can cop on their bandcamp here MILES APART.
This Mixtape Monday we rewind to Jeremy Sole’s mind blowing set from Coachella, wish i was there for this. The mix is a live recording so you can get your mind teleport on and pretend you had enough money to go. The mix like Sole’s production and influences cover’s so much ground, genre hopping and uncovering sounds from all corners of the globe with a unique chaos factor that seems to string everything together. Dude has impeccable taste and is a super tight dj. For me this mix was totally inspiring to see a dj spinning whatever the hell he wants and doing it so well. Get your global education class on with this live mix packed full of vibes.
Jeremy Sole- Live at Coachella
Here is a Cumbia inspired Whitney (R.I.P) dubplate from Sole.
Ok so this Mixtape Monday is a history lesson, but it’s a fun histroy lesson that’s not actually that old. Today we’re revisiting one of the most hyped mixes of 2007, Ruckus Robotics The Music Machine Mix, which was awarded Solid Steels best mix of the Year in 07, which is pretty much the mixtape game equivalent to winning a Oscar. The mix itself goes everywhere from the Micky Mouse club to Bow Wow and the Avalanches to LCD soudsystem, all laced together with subtle cuts and playful samples to keep things fun and interesting. The mix is ripped from the Beat Oracle radio show on WCRS, so you will here some chit chat and history from Ruckus himself. Big Ups Beat Oracle for making this downloadable and available to the rest of the world. This mix won’t be for everyone, but for those who can appreciate a dj with serious skills and sense of humor, then this is for you. Ruckus Roboticus went on to release an insanely good album “Playing With Scratches” and continues to blow minds with mixtapes, originals, remixes and edits.
This Mixtape Monday i’m going on the self indulgent tip and posting a mix i just finished myself. Today’s Mix is a follow up to a last years Sucker For Love Volume 1. After a year of procrastinating and thinking about tunes that would make sense, it’s finally done an hour and 20 mins of Love related jams covering everything from Hip Hop, Soul and Funk to New Jack, Garage and Disco and everything in between. I’ve also thrown in a few freeloads from the mix because you know i’m nice like that. Much Love to all the Haters, Mike Who, xo
I’m back from my shoestring euro trip broker than ever, which means i’m back at work which also means Mixtape Mondays is back. To kick things off we are going with one of Stateside’s finest, FourcolorZack’s and his mix Weekday Warrior Pt 3. This got me through some long haul layovers and i’m sure you will all vibe off it. Dude has skills for days and and crazy way of making stuff that shouldn’t, work! Check the Evil Woman to Saturday in the park transition. BANANAS. Your mondays are now complete, go eat an icecream and dance. There are also a bunch of other amazing mixes on his soundcloud page worth checking. here
We get tropical tonight with a bit reggae, latin vibes, a touch of hip hop and a mix from our friend Mike Who?

I Stumbled across this on soundcloud last week and had to share, an amazingly tight mix, from Canada based Dj, producer, collector and green tea drinker The Gaff. The mix spans funk, soul, hip hop, original breaks and some of Gaff’s cheeky edits all put together with supreme class and skills. This mix was made by Gaff in the lead up to infamous Brooklyn fiesta the rub’s 10th Anniversary. Someone please teleport me to this party on the 28th and i’ll pay you in burgers forever!!
Here’s the mix
Also this Edit by Gaff destroys any dancefloor worldwide were people don’t suck and like shitty music. I’m sure Shantan will be all over this like a rash. DON’T SLEEP!!
Earlier in the year I had the chance to venture to the amazing country that is Colombia. Due to our shoestring budget we decided to roll through both Cali and Medellínkind of briefly in the pursuit of both sun and coastal vibes in the north. So after a few overnight buses, which by the way were totally safe and free from any Guerrilla hijackings, we eventually made it to our final destination and a place i am 100% coming back to, the Caribbean Coastline in particular Santa Marta and Cartagena de Indias. Amazing cities, warm and friendly locals, white sand beaches, palm tress, turquoise water and plenty of fresh fish and cheap beers made bunking down in shitty hostels and enjoying a balanced diet of tuna and rice for 4 weeks all worthwhile.
The podcast is rooted in the tropical ritmos originating from the Carribbean coastline of Colombia. Some classic Cumbia, Palenque, and Salsa, with bits of hip hop and digital cumbia from some newer groups making moves throughout Colombia and Latin America . This is by no means anything in depth, just some tunes of Colombian origin i stumbled across during my travels and thought fitting to share. Saludos, Mike Who
