Really going to try and make Mixtape Mondays a reality now that i am on regular nightshifts over here. Every Monday i plan to post a new mix i have been feeling, or a nostalgic jem from the past. Freeloads will obviously join in for the fun. Being self indulgent i thought i would kick things off with a new mix i finished a week back for Sydney don Shan Frenzie’s radio show Groove Therapy. I hate this mix because i spent too long finishing it, but you might not. The mix runs through a bunch of different tunes old and new and a few of my own cheeky edits thrown in. Enjoy!
Over the last week i somehow managed talk a hostel owner in chile to give me a job. I don’t really do that much, answer a few phone calls, respond to some emails and talk shit to other tourists about my wealth of knowledge on shoestring travel in South America. Long story short i sit on the internet generally being unproductive. So in the spirit of productivity i’m sharing some tunes that i have been playing too much today.
Gorilla Zoo Riddim lock alert. I made a cheeky edit of Gorilla Zoo’s tune, Hood Nigga a few days back, here it is in all it’s glory plus the original and a few other remixes and blends that are way better than mine. Woo
Wow can’t believe i was so late to jump on this especially considering i have a bunch of homies representing. Amazing peek into some of Sydney’s finest up and coming and established beatmakers. Big love to Well dressed vandals for making it happen. IM stay up. Free download here. Ghetto Ambience Summer 2012
Here are a few other jems from some crew on this compilation.
I have known Jeremi Jackson aka Twich for longer than most people in my lifetime. Over the years we have hung out and bumped into each other through mutal friends and one thing has always remained constant, Twich constantly pushing his production, bubbling away in the depths of his studio like a mad professor, his sound getting more and more polished with each new track i hear. I rarely give advice but get to know about this dude, he has already worked with some of the finest from the states and Australian audiences have been sleeping for too long. Download a few jems off Twich’s Synethesia Mixtape and check the two clips below for some homegrown heat produced by the man himself.
I was lucky enough to take a trip to Bolivia over the last 2 weeks, and have now only just started to shake the remnants of a pretty ferkin horrible journey home. Bolivia is an amazingly beautiful country and everyone i met bar too many tourists with hiking boots and bad dreadlocks were awsome people. I managed to check a few cities and have included a bunch of photos taken mostly by my lady who lucky for you takes way better photos than me. To top off this post of greatness i included some tunes that got me through fever induced bus rides, hotel room hallucinations, market lurks, hospital visits, twilight zone salt flats, border crossings and llama meat platters. If you buy me a drank once I’m home I will tell you some extended tales. Enjoy, Mike Who.
This is basically a bunch of awsome photos of Iquique from my Bro over here. To check more of his photos follow here MrTontoJack. . Iquique Is a city in the North of Chile and pretty much my second home. I won’t ramble too much and instead let you check the photos for a slice of this beautiful city nestled in between one of the driest deserts on the planet and the Pacific Ocean.
As you can see from the last two photos there was a fire down the block the other day it was pretty heavy, but luckily nobody was harmed bar a little damage to the local Panaderia.
To add some icing suger to your Churros here are some Summertime jams that have been been getting me through the recent heatwave. Saludos, Mike Who.
Carnival in Rio is something that i have always wanted to do, that day will come when i am not on a shoestring budget living day to day. Some might say its pretty lame not checking it while I’m living on the same continent, But really i wanna do it right. I’m hopefully going to cross the border later in the year and get amongst this amazing and much hyped country and culture. Brazilian Music is such a gigantic ball of twine i wouldn’t really no where to start unravelling it. Instead i am going give you my First podcast from South America which i half talked about doing before leaving Sydney. I will attempt to cover other countries throughout South and central America over the next little while so watch this space. For now this podcast is all about some of the tunes in my Brazilian crates, I kept it short because there is so much ground to cover with Brazil so hopefully i can one day do a longer legit mix on all things Brazil. Happy carnival vibes to all those fellow travelers with enough loot. I salute and envy you. Bom dia!
