I Stumbled across this on soundcloud last week and had to share, an amazingly tight mix, from Canada based Dj, producer, collector and green tea drinker The Gaff. The mix spans funk, soul, hip hop, original breaks and some of Gaff’s cheeky edits all put together with supreme class and skills. This mix was made by Gaff in the lead up to infamous Brooklyn fiesta the rub’s 10th Anniversary. Someone please teleport me to this party on the 28th and i’ll pay you in burgers forever!!

Mike Who South America Podcast Vol 3: Colombia

Earlier in the year I had the chance to venture to the amazing country that is Colombia. Due to our shoestring budget we decided to roll through both Cali and Medellín kind of briefly in the pursuit of both sun and coastal vibes in the north. So after a few overnight buses, which by the way were totally safe and free from any Guerrilla hijackings, we eventually made it to our final destination and a place i am 100% coming back to, the Caribbean Coastline in particular Santa Marta and Cartagena de Indias. Amazing cities, warm and friendly locals, white sand beaches, palm tress, turquoise water and plenty of fresh fish and cheap beers made bunking down in shitty hostels and enjoying a balanced diet of tuna and rice for 4 weeks all worthwhile.

The podcast is rooted in the tropical ritmos originating from the Carribbean coastline of Colombia. Some classic Cumbia, Palenque, and Salsa, with bits of hip hop and digital cumbia from some newer groups making moves throughout Colombia and Latin America . This is by no means anything in depth, just some tunes of Colombian origin i stumbled across during my travels and thought fitting to share. Saludos, Mike Who

20 Years of World Famous Beat Junkies

This past weekend, the World Famous Beat Junkies celebrated their 20 year anniversary as a DJ crew. Performing to a sold out show at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, Beat Junkie enthusiasts new and old, from near and far, all came together to watch in awe as the crew provided a rare group performance. Check out the video above to see their history, or fast forward to the 7 minute mark to get a taste of their supreme talent as DJ’s. It’s worth knowing that the Junkies are essentially the most talented collective of DJ’s around. Most of them tour the world regularly, they’ve won DJ battles as well as rocked parties, and they still maintain a humble and welcoming disposition.

They’re not just great DJ’s either, J Rocc just put out a solid instrumental album last year and Rhett consistently gives out free gems. Listen to some choice cuts below.

Nothing groundbreaking, just a really fun party. Every second month the hippest covers night is held at Goodgod Small Club: the Player Hater’s Ball. This time round with the assistance of Alphamama, we payed tribute to Destiny’s Child, and craziness ensued. Never have we seen Goodgod that packed. The line for this party went out the club and down the street. People were willing to wait up to an hour, just to get into this party, and it was well worth it. Levins, Joyride and Alphamama really killing it all night.
