Gappy Ranks is one of the artists at the forefront of a resurgence in UK reggae music. Not since the 80s and artists like Smiley Culture, have there been English reggae artists that have been able to record hits in the UK, which also received respect and success back in Jamaica. Gappy Ranks however has been changing that.
Not long after his first visit to Australia in September last year, Gappy returned to our shores to merk it once more. Here are some shots from his performance at Goodgod with supports from Hoops, Jimmy Sing & Judgement, Naiki and the African Essence Dancers.
Also I have uploaded one of the tracks he performed. A reggae song about his experience being in Japan when the earthquake hit last year.
Listen: Gappy Ranks – I Was There (Japan Earthquake)
Awesome flyer. Though I am not entirely sure it sends the right message. Come Saturday we may have a lot of creepy fishmen seeking a fishy sex party, rather than an epic night of dancehall, hip hop, moombahton, reggaeton, rnb bassline, and other global club goodies.
The first time we did this last year it was an amazing night. The speakers were pushed to their limit with new and old sounds from all over the globe. People danced till they had butt cramps.
We are doing it again this Saturday. Come get epic with Levins, Kato and myself at Goodgod Small Club Saturday Feb 25. We’ve invited some dancers from Dance Studio 101 to come and lead the madness.
Here is a mix to give you a tast of what I will be playing.

Carnival in Rio is something that i have always wanted to do, that day will come when i am not on a shoestring budget living day to day. Some might say its pretty lame not checking it while I’m living on the same continent, But really i wanna do it right. I’m hopefully going to cross the border later in the year and get amongst this amazing and much hyped country and culture. Brazilian Music is such a gigantic ball of twine i wouldn’t really no where to start unravelling it. Instead i am going give you my First podcast from South America which i half talked about doing before leaving Sydney. I will attempt to cover other countries throughout South and central America over the next little while so watch this space. For now this podcast is all about some of the tunes in my Brazilian crates, I kept it short because there is so much ground to cover with Brazil so hopefully i can one day do a longer legit mix on all things Brazil. Happy carnival vibes to all those fellow travelers with enough loot. I salute and envy you. Bom dia!
Mike Who South America Podcast Series Vol 1: Brazil
A true romantic at heart (or some may say creep), Millie likes to be creative when trying to catch the attention of a desirable young man. Saying hello is just too conventional (or some might say too confronting). To create intrigue and an air of mystery that a man can not resist, try crafting your own hotel matchbox with the words “Light My Fire” and just your phone number on it, then wait for your opportunity to place it in the bicycle spokes of that hot Surry Hills hipster you have been wanting to talk to. Guaranteed they’ll call (with a restraining order).
Millie is not selfish with her creative works of love. She wants to help you with your love making too. She is selling these cards on this site here or they also available at Surry Hills vintage clothing store Dear Pluto for only $6 each.
It may have been a pretty average summer, but we are bringing the tropical vibes through your speakers. Dancehall Reggae, Moombahton, Bashment Vibes with a special guest mix from Jamrock’s Nick Toth.

From Stockholm to Compton, this was a night showcasing some very unique styles of reggae music from two different parts of the globe. Hailing from Compton Los Angeles, of Hawaiian and Samoan heritage, J Boog brings the island vibes with a very laid back Polynesian soul influenced style of roots reggae. In support of J Boog was Million Stylez. Million was born and raised in Stolkholm, Sweden, and is half Japanese and French. Growing up among mostly migrants he learned to respect different cultures and started experimenting with hip hop at a young age. A little later he discovered reggae music and is now one of the number one dancehall artists in Europe. Together they put on an amazing show, highlighting different sides of reggae music.

I really miss Sarah’s show on BBC 1xtra. There is so much I still love about that station, but the hip hop offering is just not as diverse and just a little bit too yelly, since Sarah, Excalabar, Rodney P & Skitz had shows. Sarah’s show was the place for me to come to get the update on more traditional hip hop from the UK, and the states without too many explosions and other hoo harr. She even gave me a shout out once. I was super happy as I sat there listening at work.
Even so, Sarah has still been doing her thing. We were lucky enough to have her in on the show for a mix, when she was in Australia just a week or so ago.
