Have you ever wondered what River Dance meets Dancehall Reggae sounds like? How about Gaelic Hip Hop? It’s St Paddy’s Day and I thought we would celebrate our Irish heritage with music.
We also get our gangsta boogie on with a massive set of West Coast hip hop. Plus Joyride comes in to perform a Kelis with the Neptunes Cover, ahead of the Player Haters Ball.
There is no way this one will not be massive. After a huge R Kelly Tribute and an equally big xmas ball, this time we are paying homage to the works The Neptunes.
The Accidents, led by the Samoan John Legend, Don Joyride, will perform two sets. The first a mix of covers and originals. The second set will be pure Pharrell and Chad bangers from N*E*R*D* to Usher to Justin Timberlake to Britney and so much more.
Any Neptunes jams missed by The Accidents will definitely be played by Levins, Shantan Wantan Ichiban and Joyride when they each serve up some Hip Hop, R&B and Soul goodies on the turntables.
Each of these parties has been a sweaty night of loose dancing and folks getting it on with each other. I don’t expect this one to be any different.

The first one was technically a sell out. Well it would have been if we didn’t keep letting people in. This one should be just as big as our resident R&B coverband Joyride & The Accidents, will be sharing the stage with Alphamama.
We paid tribute to R Kelly at the first ball, this time expect a mix of classic and new R&B jams being performed by these two amazing soul outfits. Oh and maybe a couple of originals thrown in.
That is not all folks. Spinning hip hop and R&B on the night are DJs Levins, Shantan Wantan Ichiban and Joyride. You know this is going to be a proper party just before the Christmas break.
It is a Christmas party as well so maybe expect a Destiny’s Child style carol or two, and more drunken random hook ups than even the last one.

I was at Parklife last year in Brisbane for work and as the other Lacoste wearing brown person in Queensland I kept getting mistaken for Mehdi at various pre-festival parties. As ridiculous as it was I was thinking if I could pull off a French accent, I could really clean up here. Later I did a brief interview with Mehdi, and ended up bumping into him a couple of times over following week or so. Though my encounters were brief, he really did come across as that good natured, good humoured person that you hear about from so many of the people that knew him well.
Last week when I heard the tragic news, I started going through the Mehdi stuff I had and collecting a few other bits. I ended up putting together this mix for the show, playing some of his older hip hop production, newer hip hoppy stuff, remixes and some of the original tracks he sampled. I am sure there are some better tributes other there like this one from Feadz and this hip hop mix by Abcdr du Son, but even so this is our hommage.
